Excalibur Home of Evangel's Yearbook
How do you make a yearbook?
There are 3 basic stages in the process of making a yearbook: PLANNING, PRODUCING & PRINTING. The Excalibur Staff puts a great deal of time and effort into each stage of the creation process.

During the planning stage of development, the Excalibur Staff brainstorms about the year's theme. The theme provides the central element that gives the entire book a unified purpose in terms of design, content and copy (writing). Once the theme is selected, the Editor in Chief determines deadlines for the entire year, making detailed notes on the content of each section, page, and event. Once a framework has been created, tasks are assigned and the team gets to work.
This video blog with Roman Burleson, Editor-in-Chief, gives a look at the planning process:

The majority of the year is spent creating and capturing the content that goes in the yearbook. A photographer and copy editor attend each event covered on campus, including campus wide events (like Homecoming, EU's Got Talent, Harvest Fest, Spring Fling, Spiritual Emphasis Week, etc...), athletic events, department events (music concerts, theatre productions, guest professors, etc...), and floor events (like intramural sports, floor traditions, etc...). The photographers capture the unique moments of the events and the copy editors/writers record the significant details that should be remembered. The layout editors then combine the text, pictures and graphics in an asthetically pleasing spread.

The Excalibur Staff definitely has a good time. Here's a quick story of one of those good times:

As deadlines are met in the production process, the completed spreads of the yearbook are sent off to the printer (Jostens) to be printed in "proof" form for final approval. Once the proofs are printed, any corrections made cost the Excalibur an extra fee.
The last proofs are printed just before the end of the spring semester and approved by the staff. The final approval is the last step in the Excalibur creation process. The design files are then sent to the printers and waited for eagerly by the students of Evangel!
