The Lance submits atmost 35 articles to the Missouri College Media Association Competition. The contest recognizes excellent student media produced. Some of the scoring criteria includes quality, style, relevance, lead, and literary merit. In 2010, the Lance won 10 awards. MCMA is the state organization for student print and partner online media and is affiliated with the Missouri Press Association. The Lance and Excalibur are members of MCMA.

The contest recognizes excellent student media produced throughout the year and the entries are judged from colleges and universities across the nation.
