Kelly Bevill According to the Evangel student handbook, “No visible body piercings are permitted, with the exception of earrings and a petite nose ring.” This policy is ridiculous and unnecessary. Honestly, what is the difference between a nose ring and another facial piercing, other than the location on the face. What negative statement does an eyebrow ring, for example, make that a nose ring does not? The handbook explains that students who have body piercings may have a difficult time in future job and ministry experiences. But honestly, many of these piercings close up extremely quickly after removal. If college is not a time when a person can experiment with these relatively harmless activities, they may never have the opportunity. Piercings are an outward expression of a personal statement. This statement is not hurtful to anyone. If someone is worried about difficulty in landing a job after college, they can simply remove the piercing or put in a clear retainer. |
